MCSA-MCSE Careers Training Described

September 12th, 2009

As your research has brought you here it’s possible that you’re about to make a move into the great world of IT and you’ve heard good things about MCSE’s, or you’re currently an IT professional and you’ve realised that your career is blocked until your get an MCSE.

We’d recommend you see evidence that the training provider you’re using is actually training you on the latest version from Microsoft. A number of trainees become very demoralised when they realise they’ve been learning from an outdated MCSE program which inevitably will have to be up-dated.

Training providers must be devoted to finding the right path for their clients. Directing study is as much about guiding people on establishing which way to go, as much as giving them help to get there.

One crafty way that training providers make more money is via an ‘exam inclusive’ package then giving it ‘Exam Guarantee’ status. It looks impressive, until you think it through:

Thankfully, today we tend to be a tad more knowledgeable about sales gimmicks – and most of us cotton on to the fact that it is actually an additional cost to us – it’s not because they’re so generous they want to give something away!

Those who enter their exams one by one, funding them one at a time are in a much stronger position to qualify at the first attempt. They’re thoughtful of their investment and so are more inclined to make sure they’re ready.

Don’t you think it’s more sensible to not pay up-front, but when you’re ready, instead of paying a premium to the training course provider, and also to sit exams more locally – rather than possibly hours away from your area?

A great deal of money is made by a number of companies who take the exam money up-front. Many students don’t take them for one reason or another but the company keeps the money. Surprising as it sounds, there are companies around who depend on students not taking their exams – as that’s where a lot of their profit comes from.

You should fully understand that re-takes with training course providers with an ‘Exam Guarantee’ are monitored with tight restrictions. They’ll insist that you take mock exams first until you’ve proven that you’re likely to pass.

Shelling out hundreds or thousands of pounds on ‘Exam Guarantees’ is short-sighted – when hard work, commitment and the right preparation via exam simulations is what will really guarantee success.

Most commercial training providers will only offer office hours or extended office hours support; It’s rare to find someone who offers late evening or full weekend cover.

Look for training with help available at any time of day or night (irrespective of whether it’s the wee hours on Sunday morning!) You’ll need access directly to professional tutors, and not a message system as this will slow you down – waiting for tutors to call you back – probably during office hours.

The best trainers have many support offices around the globe in several time-zones. By utilising an interactive interface to seamlessly link them all together, at any time you choose, help is just a click away, without any contact issues or hassle.

Don’t compromise with the quality of your support. The majority of trainees that fall by the wayside, would have had a different experience if they’d got the right support package in the first place.

Looking around, we find a myriad of jobs and positions available in the IT industry. Picking the right one for you often proves challenging.

Because with no solid background in the IT industry, how should we possibly be expected to know what someone in a particular job does?

To get to the bottom of this, there should be a discussion of several core topics:

* What nature of individual you are – what kind of jobs you enjoy doing, plus of course – what you definitely don’t enjoy.

* Is your focus to get qualified for a certain motive – e.g. are you looking at working at home (self-employment?)?

* What priority do you place on travelling time and locality vs salary?

* Often, trainees don’t consider the level of commitment required to attain their desired level.

* You need to appreciate the differences between all the training areas.

To bypass all the jargon and confusion, and reveal the best route for you, have an in-depth discussion with an industry-experienced advisor; a person who understands the commercial reality while explaining each certification.

So many training providers only look at the plaque to hang on your wall, and forget why you’re doing this – which will always be getting the job or career you want. You should always begin with the final destination in mind – don’t make the vehicle more important than the destination.

Don’t let yourself become part of that group who choose a training program that sounds really ‘interesting’ and ‘fun’ – and end up with a certification for a career they’ll never really get any satisfaction from.

Get to grips with how much you want to earn and how ambitious you are. This can often control what exams you’ll need to attain and what industry will expect from you in return.

It’s worth seeking help from an advisor that can explain the sector you’re hoping to qualify in, and is able to give you ‘A day in the life of’ synopsis of what you actually do on the job. This is of paramount importance as you’ll need to fully understand if this change is right for you.

A knowledgeable and practiced advisor (in contrast with a salesperson) will ask questions and seek to comprehend your current experience level and abilities. This is paramount to establishing the starting point for your education.

Remember, if you’ve got any qualifications that are related, then it’s not unreasonable to expect to start at a different point than a student who’s starting from scratch.

It’s usual to start with some basic PC skills training first. This can help whip your basic knowledge into shape and make the slope up to the higher-levels a much more gentle.
